A STEP AT A TIME

Traveling in comfort can be the key to enjoying a trip whether on a plane, train or motor vehicle, especially when you don’t have all the room in the world.

Now along comes a handy little invention that is bound to change our attitude towards long distance travel in the future. Geared to people who sit for any length of time, the Emjoi Sitting Walker goes wherever you go.

It folds compactly into less than half the size of a travel pillow, but does wonders for your feet. In recent years the elevated risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) has emerged as a major factor to consider when planning a long trip.

Prolonged sitting may induce DVT*. If we don’t move our legs regularly (and how many of us do?) the blood accumulates there, thickens and circulation slows, which results in a blood clot in the leg vein. If the clot travels upwards to the heart and into the lung, pulmonary embolism can develop and it becomes potentially fatal (the clot will block blood flow.)

Exercising the leg muscles at specific intervals is recommended at least once every hour. With the Emjoi Sitting Walker, all you have to do is slip off your shoes (we found it more comfortable) and let your feet do the walking. No more swollen ankles or feet “falling asleep.”

(On a recent trip to Australia, the Emjoi Sitting Walker went along and proved to be a valuable tool for travel. It also came in handy while flying 20,372 kilometers between Miami and Brazil (and five in-country states as well.)
