MAKING WAVES

CRUISING AMERICA’S ISLAND PARADISE OF HAWAII Surrounded by thousands of miles of ocean, The Holland America cruise is designed to spotlight Hawaii like the ancient Polynesian voyagers once did. Chic ms Zaandam embodied a graciousness that many recall in the early days of sailing. The spirit of Aloha embraced the passengers while we were at sea for eight days and visiting Hawaii the rest of the time.

GREEK ISLAND ODYSSEY Like precious jewels the Cyclades (pronounced Chick-lad-is) are islands that sparkle in glorious Greece. The lure of this fascinating ring of Greek islands came with a promise of sun dappled days and moonlit nights……..such are the Cyclades that form an archipelago in the center of the Aegean Sea.

EASY DOES IT – BARGING DOWN THE OHIO RIVER “What makes a river so restful to people is that it doesn’t have any doubt - it is sure to get where it is going, and it doesn’t want to go anywhere else.” - Mark Twain The River Barge River Explorer is a large flat-bottomed vessel built for navigation on rivers and inland waterways to carry cargo and passengers. This is the only hotel barge traveling American inland waterways.

ALASKA HERE I COME! Life is full of firsts. Your first car, your first vacation and then there is your first cruise. I suppose you could say I’m the cruise kid on the Ms. Ryndam, one of many five-star ships in the Holland America fleet, where four days of fun and leisure awaited me.

OH LA LA! THEME-ATIC CRUISES! Imagine strolling along a cruise ship’s sun-drenched deck, daiquiri in hand, nodding to other lounging passengers and admiring the tan on your stark naked body. While this image is a shriek-inducing nightmare to some, it’s a dream vacation to others. Nude cruises are just one of the unique theme cruises offered by tour operators later this year and in 2003.

TWENTY-SIX MILES ACROSS THE SEA The swells were relatively small but sheets of white water still billowed across the bow of the Catalina Channel Express as it pounded the blue waters of the Pacific on its way to Catalina Island just off the coast of Southern California.

MEET ME ON THE CHATTAHOOCHEE Southern hospitality in these parts has a strong emphasis on food. The thought of missing Country’s BBQ (we couldn’t make it) was difficult, however, I would once again meet the Queen of Columbus cuisine, Miriam, and I was sure that she would wear that crown forever once everyone in my party had dined at Miriam’s Café & Gallery
